Next Food Network Star

Although the show had it's season opener just this past Sunday evening, I already have a couple of the contestants I'll be glad to see leave, and a couple who are my favorites.  If you're watching the show, do you have any likes and dislikes among the contestants?

June - Poem by John Clare

'Now summer is in flower and natures hum

Is never silent round her sultry bloom

Insects as small as dust are never done

Wi' glittering dance and reeling in the sun

And green wood fly and blossom haunting bee

Are never weary of their melody

Round field hedge now flowers in full glory twine

Large bindweed bells wild hop and streakd woodbine

That lift athirst their slender throated flowers

Agape for dew falls and for honey…

Fact vs Myth

Today it is difficult to determine what is fact and what is "malarkey."  Is it true that it is bad to use anything that is canned (from a grocery store), except, of course, vegetables that can be rinsed?  Supposedly the can lining is bad????

It is getting more and more difficult to cook if this is true.  Would like to hear others' views and tips to surpass this problem if true (such as packaged soup mixes, etc.)  Is there a Mushroom soup mix?

Thanks in…

Cinema visits

Well the cinema has had its pennies from us this week. Thursday we went to Cambridge to see 'the quiet ones'. A horror story, set in Oxford (UK) and based on an alledged true story.

Yesterday, we went to see Noah which is based (as you might suspect)  on the biblical story of the holy man and the boat along with a vast amount of water. From what I'veread about it people were mixed. The main point of contention from the reviews I saw were the 'rock monsters'. Agreed, I can't recall…

I just thought I would pop over to keep you up to date with my laptop situation, I am using my daughters pc which is a struggle as it keeps skipping or putting extra letters in - so bear with me please.

My laptop was returned, it transpired I just need a new charger. Unfortunately we have just had some work done on our house/garden which has left money a bit tight for a little while. This in turn brings another problem, as all my newsletter stuff is on the laptop (which I am unable to…

I am procrastinating, as usual.  The invention of the home computer AND social media has really messed up my life.   I was about to make a cup of coffee when I just sat down a second ago (30 minutes) before heading to the kitchen.  I still haven't made it.

Children say the funniest things...

Yesterday my daughter said to my 3 year old grand daughter (and five year old grandson) "We have to go to the pharmacy so Mummy can get her medication". So off they went, and as they came out and headed home my grand daughter started to throw a paddy! "What's up" her mum asked. "You said we were going to see the Farm Horsey" and now we're going home..…

I'm watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives - again.  I watch the shows over and over.  I learn something almost every time.  Anyway, tonight they were using pork belly and I wasn't sure what it was.  I've noticed they mentioned bacon a lot when using pork belly, but I wanted to check it out.  So, I did a search and this is what I found.  I thought some of you might be…

Exhausted and looking forward

Today I have been to one of my least favourite places in the world - the dentist! A few weeks back I went following an abscess and had the root canal drilled clean, this time it was simply to fill it. Surely this would be 'easier' and less traumatic than the drilling? Wrong, in fact I had to sit up and have a rinse. You see it wasn't through any pain, but rather the nasty foul tasting liquid he keep squirting into the canal which kept falling onto my throat. This in turn caused a burning and…
